Scaling New Heights for Wildlife: Climbing Mont Blanc

2

A lot of our patients will know mountain climbing is a great passion of Ben’s. In June he joined some friends in climbing Mont Blanc to raise money and awareness for Wildlife Vets International (WVI).

Wildlife Vets International is a service that sponsors top veterinary specialists to assist with conservation initiatives across the globe. They work in partnership with governments and conservation organisations and alongside local vets to ensure that specialist veterinary expertise is available to the most vulnerable of species and in the most remote areas. Some of their recent projects include Saving the Mediterranean’s Turtles, Tiger Health Program and Amur Leopards: Saving the world’s most endangered big cat.

The summit of Mont Blanc stands at 4,809 metres making it the highest point in Western Europe. Due to very challenging conditions and winds up to 70kph the climbed was stopped at to 4,362 metres, just short of the summit but this in itself was a huge accomplishment. The fundraising efforts were also very successful with over £5000 being raised to support WVI.
